For the most part I enjoyed Murder for Choir. The main character, Paige, an aspiring opera singer/musical comedy actress, takes a job with a high school glee club until she can find a performing job. She is very personable although a little on the klutzy side; she knows her music and dance, however. But before school even starts there is a murder at the glee club summer day camp, and a much disliked glee club director from another school is dead. The arrest of one of her glee club members and the apparent indifference of the homicide detective to finding the truth put Paige on the trail. As the suspects for the most part are fellow teachers and the ex-wife of the victim, it doesn't take long for her to become embroiled in the case. She is the right age to be a cozy heroine, and she has the requisite kooky relative, in this case her Aunt Millie, with whom she is living. Aunt Millie has a penchant for poodles, both dead and alive, but her poodle does NOT like Paige at all! There is a mean girl, Chessie, another of Paige's students, who has the talent and ambition of Rachel Berry with the nasty attitude of Kitty, a new character on Glee. And of course there is a romantic interest, a man with authority (usually a police detective or a private detective) who is attracted to her in spite of himself and vice versa. I only wish she hadn't been constantly worrying about going to jail! That was annoying. One reason I gave this only 3 stars is that it is very formulaic; that's not to say it's not enjoyable, but it's not terribly original. It's as if someone said, "We need a mystery about a glee club," and it was written to order. My primary reason, however, is that we saw so little of the Glee Club. I want to see more interaction with the students besides the few we have met so far. As someone who lives in Maryland, where there does not seem to be anywhere near the emphasis there is on glee clubs in the book, I'd like to understand how they work. There appear to be several levels of clubs and students strive to move higher. Perhaps some insight would be in order.
I have ordered the next book already, so I do want to continue. The next one will be four or more stars, I hope.

Murder for Choir A Glee Club Mystery Joelle Charbonneau 9780425251379 Books Reviews
i loved it because i actually know one of the characters personally. it was cool reading his name in the book.
The plot line is fairly well planned out but the typos and wrong word usage are just annoying. I doubt that I would read another book by this author. If someone is going to write a book, that person should be more aware of how words are used. "Sat" and "set" are not interchangeable. A woman cannot sat her purse down. If Charbonneau had paid attention to these details, including words ending in "ed" that shouldn't end in "ed" then I might recommend this book. But nothing turns me off quicker than bad editing or bad writing to begin with.
I loved the humor and could not put it aside.
A great start to a new series.
Looking forward to the next one!
If you're looking for a nice light book with a strong first person female point of view, this is a wonderful book. Joelle does a great job of conveying the emotions of our heroine Paige. It's never one emotion, it's quite a mixture of multiple emotions at one time. It isn't quite a "mystery" book per se, if that's your cup of tea. Would make a great "by the beach or pool" reading book.
When Paige finds their chief rival's dead body -- evidence points to her most prized young singer. Believing in his innocence, Paige sets out to tip the scale in the right direction by finding the killer.
This was a fun read that entertained me from the start to the tantalizing conclusion. This easy flowing and well-written whodunit quickly became a page-turner as I could not put down this book. With a great plot, the mystery kept me guessing as the case came to fruition. Paige is a determined and likable character with a supporting cast that includes her aunt Millie who is hilarious. This is a wonderful entry into the cozy genre and I can't wait for my next visit with Paige and her friends in this delightfully enjoyable debut series.
Ms. Charbonneau is a favorite author of mine to track. This new debut novel was very good and I really enjoyed it. A young Opera singer, Paige Marshall is living with her Aunt and trying to earn a living while awaiting being 'discovered.' The job is being an assistant coach of a school Show Choir.
On Paige's first day at rehearsal, she stumbles upon the dead body of a rival school's leader. To her shock, one of her students is the number one suspect. Paige just knows this is wrong and sets out to discover the truth.
The characters surrounding Paige are as varied and colorful as the most difficult aria and as complex an orchestration as can be heard.
I enjoyed this book greatly and look forward to the next one.
