Blame The Goth Girl Vol 1 In The Beginning There Was Bauhaus eBook Bettina Busiello
I have to admit, I am torn. Blame the Goth Girl is an interesting story with many intriguing characters, which Ms. Busiello has crafted in her own unique way. This is not a cookie-cutter urban fantasy. Her fantasy world is much like our own, so suspending disbelief is easy to achieve. There are point-of-view shifts, through well-labeled chapter headings, between a few different characters. I enjoy this type of story-telling; it gives me a perspective I otherwise wouldn’t have. Also, knowing the thoughts and feelings that are going on in whomever’s head gave me the chance to identify with them on a personal level.Onyx, the main character and our Goth girl, is snarky, relatively down-to-earth, and street smart. However, she finds herself in foreign territory when she begins to notice otherworldly creatures around her. She fancies herself as a paranormal investigator, when she is not running her porn store, even though she has only had experiences with ghosts. While that sounds interesting, I found myself wishing for more character development with her. Onyx is not flat though, but her past is more a mystery so far.
I enjoyed the witty dialogue and the vast array of creatures, along with a few humans. The plot is captivating as we learn how this world works right along with the other players. It seems there is more to Onyx than even she realizes.
But then…
No, no, no, just NO! You can NOT end a book with NO resolved issues! Endings like this are not considered a hook, it’s like slapping the reader in the face. Where is the cliff-hanger warning in the blurb? It shows a lack of respect to your readers, and will get you dropped like a hot potato for the scathing burn they are left with. What were you thinking, Ms. Busiello? This is not a good way to gain a base of faithful readers.
No, I’m not kidding. The book ended abruptly, and left me in frustrated disbelief. For that reason alone the book lost stars. To tell you the truth, I seriously considered rating this book two stars despite how much I liked the story so far.
FYI: In The Beginning There Was Bauhaus is the first book in the Blame the Goth Girl series and ends with a major cliff-hanger. There is one oral sex scene and several F-bombs within, so if you are sensitive to either of these you should find another book. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. Blame The Goth Girl Vol 1 In The Beginning There Was Bauhaus eBook Bettina Busiello Reviews
This is a really cool story. It has supernatural stuff and Goth which is right up my alley. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
Fun and fast paced. This a la goth themed, urban fantasy was a quick page turner. Some of the grammar needs some more editing. The constant changing of POV was more often confusing and sometimes forgot who was talking. But over all it is a fun interesting story. I recommend it.
I really enjoyed this first venture of a new writer. Fast paced with original writing and very amusing characters, you get a feel for all involved, especially if you check your "reality" at the door. I've bought all three in the series that are available thus far and look forward to the adventures of Onyx and her crew. Would definitely recommend for those who love to escape with flights of fancy.
Absolutely loved this book. Unusual plot line. Twists and turns everywhere but masterfully crafted. A young girl is slowly maturing into her unique life's work of smelling evil and paranormal investigations. This is book 1 of a series. I just purchased book 2, can't wait to start reading! Enjoy!!
I've started reading this series very recently and I have to say, it's pretty amazeballs. I know that term doesn't fall into what people would consider a review, but seriously, I haven't come across something this good in quite some time. It takes a lot for a story to make me giggle let alone laugh from my gut, and still maintain its dark subject matter and sexy undertones. I seriously recommend you goth crew, rivetheads, cyber freaks, and the cute little baby goths, even those of you into vamps, wolves, and all those freaky, scary things that go bump in the night, to read this series. You really won't regret it.
Like this series, the characters, etc. My only reason for three stars is that this is a series where it's always a cliffhanger at the end where you have to buy the next in the series to see the resolution of the story. Then there is another problem right away in the next, which ends in a cliffhanger and on and on. Now each book is cheap and the first two are free, but I dislike cliffhangers.
I met Bettina at an author/reader conference last weekend, and I was intrigued by her books. Books 1 and 2 of the series were free on , so I bought book 3 (print version) from her (a signed book! I'm so lucky!).
I started this book, Book 1 of the series, last night. The reason I chose this book is because I had just finished a book and was too lazy to get up and choose a print book from my TBR stack. D
I'm SO GLAD I chose this book! I've already finished book 1 and am well on my way through book 2. And I bought the rest of the series.
It's a fun paranormal/detective read with some sexy times. Bettina writes well and tells a great story.
